Edge 86 will bring SSO for Microsoft Account on macOS, Windows 7/8/8.1

According to an official roadmap entry spotted by Techtsp, Microsoft Edge’s Single Sign On (SSO) feature will work with Microsoft Account (MSA) on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and macOS computers starting Edge v86. This feature is currently in the works. The feature will first become available in Edge 86 Beta this month (August 2020).

As a result, macOS or Windows 7/8/8.1 users who have signed in on Edge 86 will be able to automatically sign into Bing, Office, MSN, and Outlook websites, courtesy of Single Sign-On.

The roadmap description reads:

“A user signed in on Microsoft Edge on either macOS or down-level Microsoft Windows (7, 8, 8.1) will now get automatically signed into websites that are configured to allow single sign on with Microsoft accounts (eg: bing.com, office.com, msn.com, outlook.com).”

In related news, Microsoft Edge’s Automatic Profile Switching will soon be compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 computers starting Edge v86. Microsoft Edge’s Automatic Profile Switching has been available to users since Edge v83 release. But for now, it is limited to Windows 10 users.
