Pakistan’s ban on TikTok lifted just after 10 days

Pakistan has restored TikTok services in the country just 10 days after imposing a ban on China’s ByteDance-owned popular video app. In its statement, Pakistan has also hinted the TikTok content moderation could get stricter in the country.

“In view of the presence of vulgar, indecent/immoral content on the platform and its negative effects on the society, PTA has been continuously asserting TikTok to prevent its platform from disseminating the unlawful content. However, TikTok couldn’t satisfy the Authority for taking concrete steps for blocking and removal of unlawful content. Hence, the TikTok application was blocked until a satisfactory content monitoring mechanism is put in place,” Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said in a press release.

Earlier, Pakistan had banned TikTok, claiming the app did not remove “immoral” and “indecent” content.
